Neon glittered eggs

Glittered eggs 2013

For this year's Easter tree, that I am in the process of making, I need some new eggs to hang on it. So I have started glittering plastic eggs in this years colour palette of grey, peach, copper, coral, bright green, neon pink and neon yellow.

Tap gently to remove any excess glitter, and leave to dry. Push egg hangers into hole at top of eggs and thread bakers twine thread through loop in egg hanger, and knot to secure. Brush PVA glue onto rest of eggs and spoon glitter onto eggs, covering entire surface. Tap gently to remove any excess glitter, hang and leave to dry.

Hand-made chocolate egg

Hand-made chocolate egg by Torie Jayne

I have never made a big chocolate egg... until now! But when a certain little person said they would love a blue egg for Easter, their wish was my command!

Chocolate egg
What you will need:

Hand made chocolate egg

Instructions
  1. Temper (melt) white chocolate
  2. Stir in blue chocolate food colouring a little at a time until you have desired colour. Stir well so colour is even
  3. Fill mould full of melted chocolate, let it sit for a few minutes.
  4. Then pour the liquid chocolate out. Some of the chocolate will have solidified on the inside of the mould
  5. Leave to set. Refrigerating speeds up this process and can make it easier to turn out
  6. Carefully release the eggs from the plastic moulds

I filled mine with coloured candy and a little white rabbit then wrapped it tightly in cling film and tied a pretty ribbon round it.

Bunnies are looking after the egg!

Glitter eggs

Glitter eggs by Torie Jayne

For this year's Easter tree, that I am in the process of making, I need some new eggs to hang on it. I have recycled my previously painted eggs from my Easter 2010 table by covering them in glitter to match this year's Easter colour scheme of mint, peach and gold.

Sequin Eggs

Sequin Eggs

Yesterday I showed you my inspiration for this year's Easter Table. Today I am showing you the sequin eggs I have finished so far! I have yet to decide whether to add some ribbon loops to them and hang them from my Easter tree or fill a glass vase with them. Oh, decisions, decisions!

Egg topiary tree

Egg topiary tree
Egg topiary by Pottery Barn Kids

I fell in love with the Pottery Barn Easter egg topiary tree from my Easter tree post. Unfortunately, as I live in the UK there was no chance of getting one. During a visit to Hobby Craft I noticed they were selling pots of small plastic eggs so I purchased two of them with the idea of making the tree in the same colours as my wooden bird houses. It took some working out, but I am pleased with the result.

Egg topiary tree

You will need
36 small plastic eggs
polystyrene cone
paint
wire
plant pot
cream roving
needle felting needle
small wired paper flowers

How to
  1. Using an embroidery needle, punch a hole in either side of 35 of the eggs.
  2. String 3 eggs together using wire, and make into a circle, twisting the end of the wire to secure. Fold twisted wire so it points inwards.
  3. Repeat step 2 with 7, 9 and 11 eggs.
  4. Paint eggs in desired colours, leave to dry.
  5. Paint plant pot and leave to dry.
  6. Place the circle of painted 11 eggs over a polystrene cone, then the circle of 9, circle of 7 and so on.
  7. Glue one painted egg at the top.
  8. Place a small strand of cream roving over the wire in between each egg. Using a needle felting needle, push roving into polystyrene cone at the top and bottom of each egg. This will secure the eggs in place and cover the wire.
  9. Push wired flowers into the gaps.
  10. Place egg covered cone into plant pot.

What Easter breakfast table would be complete without egg cups for your freshly boiled eggs! As I didn't have any egg cups that went with my colour theme I recently purchased the design a wooden egg cups and have started painting them in the pastel colour paints I used to decorate my Easter bird houses last year. This year I am having guests for afternoon tea at Easter so I was thinking of putting chocolate eggs in mine, but I also love Martha's idea of putting flowers or candles in the empty egg shells.

I hope to finish painting my egg cups soon and I will post the pics up here.

Following on from Friday's post, Easter trees, I thought I'd share some of the lovely hanging eggs you can buy to decorate your tree with.

Last year I hung felt birds on my Easter tree. This year my tree will be made from cherry blossom and pussy willow branches. I have a set of plastic eggs from last year that I want to hang from the tree, but I'm still contemplating how to decorate them! Tomorrow I will share some of the ideas I have found on decorating the eggs.
