Fabric softener labels

Home-made fabric softener labels

If you are a regular reader of my blog you will know I like designing and making labels for my jars, bottles etc. around my home. My laundry room is no exception. This time I wanted to try something different and decided to design and make decals for my up-cycled drinks bottles. This way they would not get damaged if they got wet and I could also include the recipe and instructions on making my own fabric softener and adhere it to the back of the bottle. I love how they turned out... with one exception! I spelled softener wrongly on my labels, but I have adjusted that fatal error on the labels you can print out for yourself below. The next step is to start making my own fabric softener which will hopefully save me money...

Start by washing and removing labels from drink bottle and leave to dry. Print labels onto a regular sheet of paper so you can check the labels for size and colour. Once you are happy with the size and colour of the labels, print them on to the glossy coated side of the paper. In a well ventilated area, and with newspaper laid on the ground to protect the surface, coat the printed labels with an even coat of clear varnish. Leave to dry for about 30mins. Next carefully cut out the labels. Place cut-out labels into a bowl of water and leave for up to 30 seconds. Before placing the decals onto the bottles, wet the surface of the bottles so you can slide the decals into position easily. Remove label from water and place it facing up on your bottle. Carefully slide the decal paper slightly and attach the corner lip of the decal onto the bottle. Once you have the lip attached to the bottle, gently pull the backing paper away and adhere label to bottle. Once the decal is attached to the bottle, carefully slide it around to your desired position. Then gently rub the label with a lint free cloth to remove any air bubbles and leave to dry for 3-4 hours.

Tips: Use clear varnish spray in a well-ventilated area and protect your work surface from overspray with a newspaper. To start the paint flow properly make sure you have shaken the paint enough (refer to directions on can) and spray first on to newspaper. Spray varnish 30cm away from labels and spray in a sweeping motion maintaining a constant distance from the printed labels. Ensure labels are fully coated in varnish or there will be a leakage of ink when placed in the bowl of water at the later stage.

My hallway room, get the look...

Quirky hallway

From left to right: bleached flowers oilcloth book bag, animal sticky notes, PVC rosebud in taupe, tinned macaron cards, Pip Studio circus shopper, chrome curtain eyelet rings, PVC English Rose in taupe, Cath Kidston key fobs, Lulu vintage row of 3 hooks with crystal flowers silver.

This week on Friday finds I thought it would be fitting to do another "get the look" feature but this time on my hallway room. The only item I couldn't find anything like was my pretty floral ball that I got from Gap Kids a few years ago but I am so pleased to share with you that Cath Kidston is once again selling pretty key fobs in a host of cute prints. So many of you asked me where I got my ones that hang on my bird house hooks but at the time Cath Kidston didn't have any!

My hallway room

Hallway room

You will know from last week we have nearly finished decorating our house! So today I wanted to share with you the small room that connects the cloakroom/laundry room to the dining/living room. For easiness sake I am going to call it the hallway room!

Due to British building regulations at the time, a bathroom or cloakroom with toilet cannot be positioned directly onto a lounge, dining room or kitchen. So we had to keep this small room pretty much as it was. There were built-in shelves on one side and a glass window into the kitchen on the opposite wall. We painted the ceiling, walls and woodwork white. The old door furniture was removed and architrave was added around the door and both were painted white. The built in shelves were unpainted so they were given a lick of white paint and we added a chrome rail to hang our coats on and an expanding shoe organizer to store our shoes neatly. The floor was tiled in the same cream stone tiles as the laundry/cloakroom. To hide the clutter on the shelves I made floor to ceiling curtains out of a pretty oilcloth and, as Saturday's post, turned the window into a pinboard.

My pretty pinboard

Pretty pinboard

This week I have been sharing with you how my cloakroom/laundry room is looking so far. From Monday I will be sharing with you how the room between the dining room and cloakroom/laundry room looks with before and after pics. Before I do I wanted to share with you how I made use of a dark little window that looked into the kitchen but brought no real extra light in as I am using it as a book shelf in the kitchen, as it has a really deep ledge on the kitchen side! I decided to make it into a pinboard, here's how...

My Laundry room, get the look...

Pretty laundry room

From left to right: Washing line by Kristen Jones, pink sponge, House Doctor first aid tin, mint blue textile bag, duck egg spot towels, Regency picture frame, mint iron hook, bleached flowers ironing board cover

This week on Friday finds I thought I thought it would be fitting to do a "get the look" feature on the laundry side of my cloakroom/laundry room. I, for one, am so in love with the washed linen drawstring frill bag from Hennes, and it is a bargain at only £6.99! Hmmm, what excuse could I possibly have for buying this! I am thinking hard!

My cloakroom shelves

My Cloakroom

This week I have been sharing with you what my new cloakroom/laundry room looks like. Today it's the turn of my cloakroom shelves...

The shelf on the wall was a cheap pine shelf we picked up in the sale from Focus for a couple of pounds before it closed. After assembling the shelf, it was given a generous couple of coats of white paint and hung on the wall. The lower shelf is the top of the built-in cistern that we boxed in to the floor and painted white. The top of the wooden unit and part of the wall were then tiled with white bevel edge tiles from Walls and Floors and finished off with chrome tile edge.

For where I bought everything that sits on my shelves, click the blue links below for more info.

Amara

Amara

In keeping with this week's theme, "my cloakroom/laundry room"...

Today on shops i love I bring you Amara. Amara is the brainchild of respected Interior Designer Sam Hood and is an online boutique full of gorgeous, branded interior goods. The website is easy to navigate and is split into helpful options like brands, shop by room and has a great gift finder.

Amara sells lots of the brands I have featured here on Torie Jayne, like Day Birger Et Mikkelsen, Designers Guild and one of my favourites, Pip Studio. So when the lovely peeps at Amara offered to send me something lovely to review, I chose the "Birds of Paradise" white bath towel from Pip Studio.

As you may remember from Monday's post I already have the hand towel in khaki hanging on the wall above the sink in my cloakroom/laundry room. I thought it would look nice to hang the bath towel over my towel radiator in the diagonally opposite corner. I love it! and it adds just the right amount of colour to what would have been a dull corner.

Amara now also sells all its goods in US dollars and euros and you can have your items shipped all over the world. So now you can all have a touch of Pip Studio!
